Fear – It must certainly be the root of all evil. The hard part for me is recognizing the places in which I feel fear. I can't count the number of times I thought I was acting out of faith and realized later that it was actually fear that was motivating me!
I think that part of the reason it’s hard for us perfectionists to drop the performance and choose love is because “love” is so often contingent in many of our relationships on our performance. Not that this justifies performance/perfectionism; but it definitely makes things more complicated.
